Deep Condition Homemade Hair Treatment

After just recently coming back from the wonderfully beautiful Peruvian amazon where it was lovely and humid, my hair is a disaster back in this dry Albertan climate.  Time to try making the moisture stick.

Took the following off the livestrong.com website.

Step 1

Pour your oil into a small glass jar and fill a medium-sized pot with water.

Step 2

Place a few rocks in the bottom of the pot, and put the glass jar on top of the rocks so that it doesn’t touch the bottom of the pan.

Step 3

Bring the water to a boil, warming the oil to 100 to 105 degrees F.

Step 4

Add your herbs and essential oils of choice. Essential oils are useful if you want your conditioning treatment to be scented, and some essential oils, such as tea tree and clary sage, also have antibacterial and antifungal properties that may help treat a flaky scalp or dandruff problems. Herbs such as chamomile help give your hair golden highlights if you have light brown or blond hair. Black walnut hull can be added to conditioners intended for dark hair.

Step 5

Remove the oil from the heat and strain out the herbs using a colander.

Step 6

Dampen your hair with lukewarm water and apply 1 to 2 tsp. of the oil mixture to your hair.

Step 7

Massage the oil deep into your scalp and then work it down to the tips of your hair until it is all coated with oil.

Step 8

Cover your hair with a plastic bag or shower cap first and then with a towel or wool cap.

Step 9

Sit close to a fireplace or in the sunshine for up to 2 hours, then rinse out thoroughly, cleansing your scalp and hair with a gentle hypo-allergenic shampoo.
